Frequently asked questions
Permanent lighting, answered.
-
What is the size of your residential channel?
Short answer: Trimlight’s standard residential channel is 1.3 inches deep and 1.85 inches high. It mounts tight under the roofline and is color-matched to your trim, so from the street it reads as a thin trim line rather than a light fixture.
Why the size matters
A permanent system is up all year, so its daytime profile is important. The small channel:
- Blends in: it’s barely noticeable from the street when matched to your fascia or soffit.
- Hides the wiring: all wiring runs inside the channel.
- Protects the bulbs: bulbs sit in the channel, shielded from much of the sun and weather.
- Follows your roofline: it’s cut on-site to fit eaves, gables and corners.
How the bulbs sit in the channel
The bulbs are set into the channel and protrude 3/8 inch below it. That projection lets light spread at a wider angle, so the glow reads well from the street and from the side, not just straight on.
Where it mounts
Most residential installs mount the channel under the eave or along the fascia, below the roof edge and away from the gutters. During your design quote, we check your roofline to choose the cleanest mounting line.
Matching the channel to your home
Channel color matters as much as size. We compare color samples against your trim in daylight so the channel disappears into the roofline.
Commercial channel
Commercial buildings sometimes use different channel and bulb options to suit larger facades and longer viewing distances. We’ll recommend the right setup for business properties.

From brick ranches to two-story modern-farmhouse builds with dark trim, the slim channel suits the wide mix of homes across our Middle Tennessee service area. See a channel sample at your free design quote: call Northpoint Trimlight in Franklin at (931) 419-5432, Monday–Saturday: 8:00 AM – 7:00 PM

How many channel colors do you have?
Short answer: Trimlight offers more than 50 standard channel colors, plus personalized color-matching. During your free design quote, we compare samples against your fascia and soffit in daylight so the channel blends in.
Why channel color matters
The channel is what you see during the day. When it matches your trim, it reads as part of the house. When it doesn’t, it stands out. Choosing the right color is the most important step in making the system nearly invisible.
How we choose a color
- Look at the mounting surface: the channel usually sits under the eave or along the fascia, so we match that surface, not the siding.
- Compare samples in daylight: colors look different in shade, so we hold samples right where the channel will go.
- Consider the whole roofline: some homes have different trim colors on different sections, and we plan for that.
- Think about the future: if you plan to repaint, tell us so we can pick a color that works with the new trim.
Common choices
- White and off-white for painted trim
- Beige, tan and taupe for warm-toned trim
- Bronze and brown for wood tones and many brick homes
- Black and dark gray for modern trim
- Custom matching for unusual or historic colors
Painting the channel
If you repaint your trim later, ask us before painting the channel. We’ll explain the options so the finish and warranty aren’t affected.
Tips for choosing a color
Match the channel to the trim it mounts on, usually the fascia or soffit, rather than the siding or brick. If your trim is a custom paint color, we’ll pick the closest standard option. Look at samples in daylight, since colors can look different indoors.
In Middle Tennessee
Homes across our service area range from historic houses in downtown Franklin and Columbia to brick ranches and newer builds with dark modern trim. We bring channel samples to every free design quote. Call Northpoint Trimlight in Franklin at (931) 419-5432, Monday–Saturday: 8:00 AM – 7:00 PM

Will the channel be installed to custom fit my home?
Short answer: Yes. Every Trimlight system is designed and cut to fit your home. We measure your roofline during a free on-site design quote, then cut the aluminum channel during installation to follow your eaves, gables, dormers and accent runs.
How the custom fit works
- Design consultation: we walk your home with you and talk about which rooflines and accents to light.
- On-site measurement: we measure each run of eave and gable and note corners, dormers and transitions.
- Color matching: we compare channel samples against your trim in daylight.
- Installation: the crew cuts and fits channel on-site so each run follows your roofline cleanly.
- Walkthrough: we turn the system on, set up the app and review the result with you.
Details we plan around
- Gables and peaks: channel follows each angle for a clean outline.
- Dormers: we decide whether to light them based on the look you want.
- Multiple roof levels: two-story homes and walkout basements need careful planning.
- Porches, garages and columns: optional accent runs extend the design.
- Gutters and downspouts: the channel mounts under the roofline and works around them.
Why custom-fit matters
A permanent system is visible every day. Channel that’s cut to fit and color-matched looks like part of the house. Gaps, uneven runs or mismatched color stand out.
Choosing what to light
You don’t have to light every edge. Many homeowners light the front roofline and main gables, while others add the sides, back or accent areas. We’ll show you options and price them in your quote.
Commercial properties
Storefronts, offices and multi-unit buildings are designed the same way, with layouts planned around the building.

Is Trimlight low voltage?
Short answer: Yes. Trimlight runs on safe, low-voltage 12V power. The controller plugs into a standard outlet and steps down household power for the lights, which keeps the roofline wiring safer and helps components run cooler than higher-voltage systems.
How the power works
- The controller and power supply plug into a standard outlet, usually in your garage.
- They convert household power to low-voltage DC.
- Low-voltage wiring runs from the controller to the lights inside the aluminum channel.
Because only low-voltage power runs along the roofline, there’s no high-voltage household wiring in the channel.
Why low voltage matters
- Safety: lower voltage along the roofline reduces electrical hazards compared with line-voltage lighting.
- Cooler operation: lower voltage systems generate less heat, which helps LEDs and electronics last longer.
- Simpler installation: low-voltage wiring can be routed neatly through the channel.
Like any electrical product, the system should be installed by trained installers and not modified.
Outlet and power needs
Most homes need only one standard outlet near the controller location. Garages often have GFCI outlets, which can trip after storms or with other tools on the same circuit. If your lights stop working, check that outlet first.
Energy efficiency
Low voltage and LED bulbs together keep power use low, so running warm white every evening adds very little to your electric bill.
Weather
The channel protects the wiring along the roofline, and the system is built for outdoor use. If your home loses power in a storm, the lights come back on with power and your saved schedule continues.
Questions about your electrical setup
Most homes need only a standard outlet in the garage. If you’re unsure, we’ll check during your design quote.
In Middle Tennessee
Middle Tennessee storms can trip garage GFCI outlets, so knowing where your controller plugs in is useful. Northpoint Trimlight shows you at installation. Questions? Call our Franklin office at (931) 419-5432, Monday–Saturday: 8:00 AM – 7:00 PM

Why do Trimlight’s make your home safer?
Short answer: Permanent lighting makes your home’s exterior easier to see after dark, which helps you, your family and visitors move around safely. Lights on timers can also make a home look occupied, and you’ll never need to climb a ladder to hang holiday lights again.
Better visibility at night
Roofline lighting casts light down across the front of the house, driveway and walkways. That helps with:
- Seeing steps, curbs and uneven ground
- Finding keys at the door
- Spotting pets, toys or tools left out
- Making your house number and entrance easier to find for guests and deliveries
Pair it with porch and landscape lighting for even coverage.
A home that looks lived-in
A dark house can look empty. With daily timers, your lights come on at sunset and turn off at bedtime every day, even when you’re traveling. You can also turn them on remotely from the app if you’ll be home late.
No more ladder season
Every year, people are hurt falling from ladders while hanging holiday lights. Permanent lighting is installed once by a professional crew, so you can skip the ladder for every holiday after that.
Safer, simpler electrical setup
Trimlight runs on low-voltage power along the roofline, with wiring protected inside the channel. There are no extension cords across walkways or overloaded outdoor outlets.
Short winter days
In December, it’s dark in Middle Tennessee before most people get home from work, so evening lighting matters most in exactly the months when days are shortest.
Use it year-round
Because the system uses efficient LEDs, many owners run warm white every evening, then switch to holiday colors when it’s time to celebrate.
In Middle Tennessee
Northpoint Trimlight can help you set timers that match the seasons. Schedule a free design quote with our Franklin office at (931) 419-5432, Monday–Saturday: 8:00 AM – 7:00 PM

Why should I have permanent holiday lighting installed?
Short answer: Permanent holiday lighting saves you from hanging and removing lights every year, keeps you off the ladder, and lets you celebrate every holiday, not just Christmas, from an app. It also gives your home an everyday warm-white glow when it’s not a holiday.
The main reasons homeowners switch
- No more hanging and taking down: the system stays up year-round and is barely noticeable by day.
- Safety: no ladder climbs every November and January.
- Every holiday covered: Christmas, Halloween, Thanksgiving, the Fourth of July, Valentine’s Day, Easter and more.
- Game days and celebrations: team colors, birthdays and graduations.
- Everyday curb appeal: warm white for a finished look every evening.
- Set it and forget it: timers and calendar events run your lights automatically.
How it compares with traditional lights
| | Traditional holiday lights | Permanent lighting | |—|—|—| | Setup | Every year | Once | | Ladder work | Every season | None after installation | | Holidays | Usually Christmas only | Any occasion | | Control | Plugs and timers | App, schedules and voice | | Storage | Bins and tangles | None |
Is it right for your home?
Permanent lighting makes the most sense if you:
- Decorate for Christmas every year
- Pay someone to hang lights now, or don’t want to climb ladders
- Like to celebrate several holidays or game days
- Want everyday exterior lighting for curb appeal and safety

Can I connect my Trimlight system to smart system devices?
Short answer: Yes. Trimlight works with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, so you can turn your lights on and off and make simple changes by voice. Full scene design and scheduling still happen in the Trimlight app.
What voice control is good for
Voice assistants are built for quick commands. Once your system is linked, you can typically:
- Turn the lights on or off
- Adjust brightness
- Switch to a basic color
For building patterns, saving holiday scenes, or setting timers and calendar events, you’ll use the Trimlight app on your phone. Think of voice control as a light switch and the app as the control panel.
How to set it up
- Make sure your Trimlight controller is connected to your home Wi-Fi and working in the app.
- Open the Alexa or Google Home app on your phone.
- Search for the Trimlight skill or action and enable it.
- Sign in with your Trimlight account when prompted.
- Ask your assistant to discover devices, then give your lights a simple name, such as “roofline.”
If a voice command doesn’t work, check the app first. If the app can’t reach the controller, the voice assistant can’t either, because both rely on the same Wi-Fi connection.
Tips for a smooth experience
- Use a short, distinct device name so your assistant doesn’t confuse the roofline with indoor lights.
- Add the lights to a routine, such as “Good night,” to turn them off with everything else.
- Keep the app updated, since integrations improve with new releases.
In Middle Tennessee
Northpoint Trimlight pairs your system with the app at installation and can walk you through linking Alexa or Google Assistant. If you have questions after installation, call our Franklin office at (931) 419-5432, Monday–Saturday: 8:00 AM – 7:00 PM

Can I turn them on/off when away from home?
Short answer: Yes. As long as your Trimlight controller is connected to your home Wi-Fi, you can turn your lights on or off and change patterns from anywhere your phone has service.
How remote control works
The Trimlight controller connects to your home network. The app on your phone talks to the controller over the internet, so you don’t need to be home. From work, a trip or a lake weekend, you can:
- Turn the lights on or off
- Switch to a different saved pattern
- Change brightness
- Update timers and calendar events
Scheduling ahead
For most people, remote control is a backup. The bigger benefit is scheduling. Set a nightly timer and add holiday events months ahead, and your lights run on schedule whether you’re home or not. That’s especially useful when you travel over Thanksgiving or Christmas but still want your home lit.
Security and peace of mind
A lit exterior can make a home look occupied. With a timer, your lights come on at dusk and turn off at bedtime every day, even when you’re away. Pair that with remote control and you can check in or make changes at any time.
If remote control stops working
Remote control depends on your home internet. If your Wi-Fi goes down, your router changes, or your password changes, the app may not reach the controller until it’s reconnected. Your saved timers keep running on the controller once it’s set up, but changes from the app need a connection.
In Middle Tennessee
From Franklin and Brentwood to rural homes farther out in our service area, Northpoint Trimlight connects your system to Wi-Fi at installation and confirms the app can reach it. If you need help reconnecting later, call our Franklin office at (931) 419-5432, Monday–Saturday: 8:00 AM – 7:00 PM

Can I use Trimlight with both Android or iPhone?
Short answer: Yes. The Trimlight app works on both iPhone and Android, and several people in your household can use it on their own devices to control the same system.
Supported devices
- iPhone and iPad: download the app from the Apple App Store.
- Android phones and tablets: download the app from Google Play.
- Mac: many newer Macs can run the iPhone and iPad version.
- Windows PC: not supported directly.
Keep your phone’s operating system and the app updated for the best experience.
Sharing control with your household
You don’t have to choose between an iPhone and an Android household. Each person can install the app and sign in, so:
- One person can design holiday patterns.
- Another can switch to game-day colors.
- Anyone can turn the lights off at night.
Because everyone controls the same system, agree on who manages the calendar so schedules don’t get changed by accident.
What you can do in the app
- Turn lights on and off
- Pick preset or custom colors
- Save patterns for holidays and events
- Set daily timers and calendar events
- Adjust brightness and animation speed
Voice control
If your household uses Alexa or Google Assistant, you can also link the system for quick voice commands, whichever phone you carry.
Getting set up
At the end of installation, Northpoint Trimlight installs the app on your phone, pairs it with your system and walks you through the basics. Other household members can add the app afterward.
Sharing control with your household
Everyone in the home can install the app on their own phone and connect to the same system. That way anyone can switch patterns for a party or game night. If a family member gets a new phone, they reinstall the app and reconnect to the controller.
Keep the app updated
Install app updates as they’re released to get fixes and new features.

Can I program Trimlight from a computer?
Short answer: Trimlight is controlled through a mobile app on iPhone and Android. Many Macs can also run the app, but it doesn’t run directly on a Windows PC. Most homeowners control their lights from their phone.
Why it’s app-based
Trimlight is designed around the phone in your pocket. The app lets you:
- Turn lights on and off from anywhere with a connection
- Build and save color patterns
- Set daily timers and calendar events
- Adjust brightness and speed
Because the app is built for mobile operating systems, it works on iPhone, iPad and Android devices. Newer Macs that can run iPhone and iPad apps may also be able to use it. Windows computers don’t run the app.
If you prefer a bigger screen
A tablet is the easiest way to get a larger view. An iPad or Android tablet gives you more room to design patterns while still using the same app and account as your phone.
Sharing control with your household
Multiple people can install the app on their own devices and control the same system. That’s useful when one person sets up holiday scenes and another just wants to turn lights off at night.
Setting it and forgetting it
Most of the programming happens once. After you set a nightly warm-white timer and add holiday events to the calendar, the system runs on its own. Many owners rarely open the app outside the holidays.
Tips for planning patterns
Many owners sketch a plan first: a warm-white everyday setting, a few holiday patterns and some team colors. Saving them with clear names, like “Christmas Classic” or “Game Day,” makes them easy to find later. If you want help building your first set, we’ll go through it with you at installation.
In Middle Tennessee
Northpoint Trimlight installs the app with you at the end of installation, pairs it to your system and walks you through timers and patterns. If you need help later, call our Franklin office at (931) 419-5432, Monday–Saturday: 8:00 AM – 7:00 PM
Sunday: Closed. -
Can I pair Trimlight to my home network?
Short answer: Yes, in most cases. The Trimlight controller connects to your home Wi-Fi so you can control your lights from the app. Because every home network is different, a strong signal at the controller location is the key to a reliable connection.
What affects pairing
Pairing usually goes smoothly, but some things are outside the system’s control:
- Router and modem type: some mesh systems or provider-supplied gateways need a setting changed.
- Wi-Fi band: many smart-home controllers connect on the 2.4 GHz band, so a router that only broadcasts a combined network may need adjusting.
- Firewalls and security settings: strict settings can block new devices.
- Distance and building materials: brick, stone, metal doors and long garages can weaken the signal.
- Interference: crowded networks with many smart devices can slow a connection.
How to get a strong connection
- Check the Wi-Fi signal at the controller location, usually the garage, with your phone.
- If it’s weak, add a Wi-Fi extender or mesh node closer to the garage.
- Keep your Wi-Fi name and password handy at installation.
- If you change routers or passwords later, re-pair the controller in the app.
If pairing fails
Restart the router and controller, confirm you’re on the right network, and try again in the app. If it still won’t connect, call us. Network issues are usually a quick fix, although they aren’t covered as product warranty claims.
Before your installation day
Have your Wi-Fi network name and password ready, and check the signal in your garage with your phone. If you plan to replace your router soon, tell us ahead of time. After any router change, you’ll need to reconnect the controller, and we can walk you through it by phone.
In Middle Tennessee
Homes across our service area range from newer subdivisions with mesh Wi-Fi to rural properties on fixed-wireless or satellite internet. Northpoint Trimlight checks the signal at your controller location during installation and can recommend an extender if needed. Do diodes fade in the sun?
Short answer: Per Trimlight, typical LEDs with lenses can fade or get damaged from sun over time, but Trimlight’s residential lighting has no lens or covering — the direct LED shows out of the channel — so the LEDs will not fade, get cloudy or become discolored like many other exterior LEDs. They also face down and below the channel, which further protects them from constant sun.
Why many outdoor LEDs fade
Many exterior LED products put a plastic lens or cover over the light. Over years of sunlight, that plastic can yellow, cloud or discolor, which dulls the light and shifts colors. Heat from summer sun adds to the wear.
How Trimlight’s design helps
- No lens or covering on residential LEDs (per Trimlight FAQ): nothing to yellow, cloud or discolor in front of the diode.
- Face down and below the channel: further protection from constant sun exposure.
- Shaded mounting: under the soffit/eave, out of much of the direct sun.
What affects long-term appearance
Even with a fade-resistant design, a few things matter:
- Run time: running lights 24/7 adds heat and shortens life. A sunset-to-bedtime schedule is better.
- Orientation: south- and west-facing rooflines get the most sun and heat.
- Cleaning: dust and pollen can build up. A gentle rinse keeps the light bright.
What you can do
Not much is needed. Run your lights on timers instead of all day, and rinse off pollen or dust occasionally. If you ever notice one bulb looking different from its neighbors, call us so we can check it under the warranty.
Ask us to show you
At your design quote, ask to see a sample bulb and channel up close so you can see how the bulbs sit protected in the channel.
In Middle Tennessee
Middle Tennessee summers bring long, hot, humid days, and our rooflines face strong afternoon sun. Run lights on a sensible schedule and call us if a bulb ever looks different from its neighbors. Northpoint Trimlight: (931) 419-5432, Monday–Saturday: 8:00 AM – 7:00 PM
Sunday: Closed. -
If one light goes out, do they all go out?
Short answer: Usually not. Most of the time a problem affects only one bulb, which may stop lighting or show the wrong color. If the fault is in the data connection, bulbs after that point in the run may go dark until the faulty bulb is replaced. Either way, it’s a repair your local dealer handles.
Why it depends on the fault
Trimlight bulbs are connected in a chain that carries both power and data, which tells each bulb what color to show.
- A bulb’s LED fails: that single bulb goes dark or shows the wrong color. The rest of the run works normally.
- The data connection fails at a bulb: bulbs after that point may stop responding or show random colors, because the signal can’t pass through.
- Power or controller issue: a whole run or the whole system may go dark. That usually points to the controller, a power supply or the outlet.
What to check first
- Make sure the controller is plugged in and the outlet works. GFCI outlets in garages can trip.
- Open the app and confirm it’s connected to the system.
- Try a simple pattern, such as solid white, to see exactly which bulbs are affected.
- Take a photo of the affected section from the ground.
Getting it fixed
Call Northpoint Trimlight with what you’re seeing. We’ll troubleshoot by phone and schedule a visit if needed. If a component is defective, we coordinate the claim with Trimlight under the lifetime product warranty and our crew replaces it. Northpoint also backs installation labor and workmanship for 5 years.
Why it’s a quick repair
Because each bulb sits in the channel, replacing one doesn’t mean redoing the roofline. The crew replaces the faulty bulb and tests the run.

How does your Lifetime Product Warranty work?
Short answer: Trimlight backs its system components with a lifetime product warranty, subject to Trimlight’s terms. Northpoint Trimlight is your local point of contact: you call us, we diagnose the issue, coordinate the claim with Trimlight and handle the repair.
What the product warranty covers
Trimlight provides a lifetime product warranty on system components for the manufacturer’s estimated lifespan of those parts — tied to usage and a 50,000-hour diode/bulb rating (the written limited warranty also references up to 40 years from shipment or the 50,000-hour lifespan, whichever applies under Trimlight’s criteria). The control board that connects to your phone is covered as a part; aluminum finish is warranted against chipping, peeling, flaking or blistering under ordinary wear.
What it doesn’t cover
Per Trimlight’s published warranty terms, exclusions and limits include:
- Software that connects the controller to your device; Wi-Fi or radio-frequency connection problems
- Accidental damage, acts of God (fire, lightning, windstorm, hail, etc.), misuse, vandalism, and similar causes listed in Trimlight’s warranty PDF
- Network connectivity, mobile-app use, improper programming or app misunderstandings (Trimlight HQ is not responsible for installation, support or repairs — your local dealer is)
- DIY / non-authorized-dealer installation (voids the lifetime product warranty)
Ask us for the current warranty document so you have the exact terms.
Labor coverage
The product warranty covers parts. Northpoint backs installation labor and workmanship for 5 years: if a bulb sags, a channel loosens or a connection fails because of our install, we come back and make it right at no charge. We’ll still walk through the labor terms in your quote before you sign.
How a warranty claim works
- Call Northpoint Trimlight and describe the problem.
- We troubleshoot by phone and, if needed, schedule a visit.
- If a component is defective, we coordinate the warranty claim with Trimlight.
- Our crew installs the replacement and confirms everything works.
Getting the most from your system
Running lights from sunset to bedtime, rather than 24/7, reduces heat and extends component life. Keeping the app and Wi-Fi connected makes troubleshooting faster.
What to keep on file
Keep your signed quote and installation date with your home records. If you ever need service, those details help us process a warranty claim quickly.
Selling your home
Trimlight’s written limited warranty states it is nontransferable. The lighting system stays with the house as a feature for buyers; product warranty transfer is not something Trimlight’s PDF offers. Ask us what local service options look like if you sell.

How long does Trimlight last?
Short answer: It depends on how often you run the lights. Trimlight rates the lights at a 50,000-hour lifespan and backs them with a lifetime product warranty. Holiday-only use can last about 30–40 years; typical nighttime use about 20–30 years; running 12–16 hours a day about 7–8 years. Leaving them on day and night greatly shortens life.
Lifespan by how you use it
Per Trimlight’s published guidance:
- Holiday season only: about 30–40 years
- Proper / average nighttime use: about 20–30 years
- 12–16 hours a day (avoiding the hottest summer days when extreme heat may affect them): about 7–8 years
- On continuously day and night: greatly shortens lifespan (heat dissipation)
The lights have a 50,000-hour lifespan. Hours of use, not calendar years alone, drive how long components last.
Heat matters
LEDs last longest when they stay cool. Running lights all day and night, especially in summer, adds heat that wears components faster. Sunset-to-bedtime schedules are best for long life.
What helps your system last
- Use timers: let the lights turn off automatically at bedtime.
- Skip daytime use: you rarely need permanent lighting on in daylight.
- Keep it clean: rinse off pollen and dust occasionally.
Backed by a warranty
Trimlight’s lifetime product warranty covers component defects under its terms for the manufacturer’s estimated lifespan of the parts (tied to usage and the 50,000-hour rating). Northpoint Trimlight handles local service and warranty coordination.
Compared with traditional holiday lights
Seasonal strands are often replaced every few years and take a beating from ladders, storage and weather. A permanent system stays in place, protected in its channel, and avoids that yearly wear.

How long does installation take?
Short answer: Most residential installs are completed in a single day. Larger homes with long or complex rooflines can take longer, and commercial projects are scheduled individually. We’ll give you a time estimate with your quote.
What affects installation time
- Roofline length: more linear feet of eave and gable means more channel to cut and mount.
- Complexity: dormers, multiple gables, steep pitches and second or third stories add time.
- Access: landscaping, slopes, fences and tight side yards can slow ladder and lift setup.
- Controller location: a longer wiring run from the roofline to the garage adds work.
- Weather: rain, high wind and ice can delay roofline work for safety.
What happens on install day
- Walkthrough: the crew confirms the design and controller location with you.
- Channel installation: aluminum channel is cut to fit and mounted under the roofline.
- Lights and wiring: bulbs are set in the channel and wiring runs to the controller.
- Controller setup: the controller is mounted, usually in the garage, and plugged in.
- App setup: we pair the system to your Wi-Fi, install the app and walk you through it.
How to prepare
- Clear vehicles and items away from the garage wall and the sides of the house.
- Make sure we can reach an outlet near the controller location.
- Have your Wi-Fi name and password ready.
- Let us know about pets, gates or sprinkler schedules.
Scheduling around the holidays
Fall is the busiest season for permanent lighting. If you want lights up for Thanksgiving or Christmas, book your free design quote early.
What you’ll need to do
Very little. Make sure the crew can get to the roofline, move vehicles out of the driveway if needed, and plan to be home at the end for the walkthrough. That’s when we show you the app and set up your first schedule.

How much money will I save with Trimlight compared to traditional holiday lights?
Short answer: It depends on what you spend on holiday lighting today. If you pay a company to hang and remove lights every year, permanent lighting can pay for itself over time because you pay for installation once. It also gives you every holiday and everyday lighting, not just Christmas.
How to compare the costs
A simple way to run your own numbers:
- Add up your yearly holiday lighting cost: what you pay an installer to hang, take down and store lights, or what you spend on new strands, clips, timers and replacement bulbs.
- Multiply by the years you plan to stay in your home.
- Compare that with a one-time Trimlight quote, which includes design, materials, installation and app setup.
The more you currently spend each year, the sooner a permanent system breaks even.
Savings that don’t show up on a receipt
- Time: no weekends spent hanging lights in November and taking them down in January.
- Safety: no ladder climbs every season.
- Storage: no bins of tangled lights in the attic or garage.
- Use all year: Halloween, the Fourth of July, game days and everyday warm white are included.
Energy savings
Trimlight uses efficient LEDs, which use far less electricity than traditional incandescent strands. If you still use older holiday lights, switching can lower your seasonal energy use too.
Home value and curb appeal
A clean, permanent lighting system can add year-round curb appeal. It stays out of sight by day and looks finished at night.
Get your numbers
Bring your current holiday lighting costs to your free design quote, and we’ll help you compare them with a Trimlight installation for your home.
In Middle Tennessee
The average Northpoint Trimlight project in Middle Tennessee is about $6,000. Most homes fall between $2,500 and $5,500; larger estate homes typically run $7,500 to $12,000. Can I do this myself?
Short answer: Trimlight is designed for professional installation by an authorized dealer. A professional install protects your warranty, gets the channel cut and fitted to your roofline correctly, and keeps you off the ladder.
Why Trimlight is professionally installed
A permanent lighting system is part of your home’s exterior. Getting it right involves:
- Measuring every run of eave, gable and accent line so the channel fits without gaps.
- Cutting and mounting aluminum channel cleanly under the roofline and matching it to your trim color.
- Routing wiring to a controller location, usually in the garage, and connecting it to power.
- Programming and pairing the system with your Wi-Fi and the Trimlight app.
Each step affects how the system looks by day and how reliably it runs for years.
Your warranty
Trimlight’s lifetime product warranty is tied to installation by an authorized dealer. Installing it yourself, or having someone who isn’t authorized install it, can affect your coverage. Ask us for the current warranty terms before you decide.
Safety
Roofline work means ladders, height and often steep gables. Two-story homes and walkout basements add elevation. Falls from ladders are a common cause of holiday-decorating injuries, and avoiding that risk every year is one of the main reasons homeowners choose permanent lighting.
What a professional install includes
With Northpoint Trimlight, your project includes an on-site design consultation and measurement, materials, professional installation, and app setup with a walkthrough. You get a system that’s fitted to your home and a local dealer to call for service.
What a professional install includes
A professional install covers measuring every run, cutting channel to fit, matching color to your trim, routing low-voltage wiring neatly, placing the controller and setting up the app. It also keeps the installation within the terms of Trimlight’s warranty and gives you one local company to call if anything needs attention later.

Do you mess with my gutters and drainage system?
Short answer: No. Trimlight is not installed on or attached to your gutters. The patented channel mounts beneath the soffit / under the eaves, behind the gutters and trim, and Trimlight emphasizes leaving your gutters and drip edge untouched.
Where the channel goes
Per Trimlight, the channel is positioned beneath the soffit / under the eaves, behind the gutters and trim — not screwed into the gutters. That placement:
- Leaves gutters and drip edge untouched so water can flow as designed
- Keeps the channel out of the gutter path
- Keeps bulbs shaded and protected
- Gives a clean, straight line that’s barely noticeable by day
During your design quote, we look at your roofline and gutters to plan a mounting line that works with them.
Why that matters
Gutters move water away from your roof, siding and foundation. Anything that blocks them can cause overflow, staining or water near the foundation. Traditional clip-on holiday lights often hook onto gutters or shingles; Trimlight doesn’t.
Cleaning your gutters later
Because the system isn’t inside the gutters, you or your gutter service can clean them as usual. Let your gutter cleaner know there’s a lighting channel under the eave so ladders are placed carefully. Avoid pressure washing straight into the channel.
Roofs with unusual details
Some homes have deep eaves, exposed rafter tails, dormers or decorative trim. We plan around those features with custom-cut channel so the system follows your architecture without interfering with drainage.
If you’re planning gutter or roof work
If new gutters or a new roof are in your plans, let us know during your design quote so we can sequence the work. If roof or gutter work is needed later, call us first so we can coordinate around the channel.
In Middle Tennessee
Middle Tennessee gets about 50 inches of rain a year, often in heavy spring and summer storms, so working gutters matter. What happens if a bulb goes out?
Short answer: Call Northpoint Trimlight. If one bulb fails, it’s covered by Trimlight’s lifetime product warranty under its terms, and as your local dealer we diagnose the problem, coordinate the claim and replace it at your home. If a whole section or the entire system goes dark, the cause is usually power, the controller or the network — and many of those issues can be fixed quickly.
One bulb vs. a whole section vs. everything
- One bulb out: usually a single bulb fault. Defective bulbs are replaced under Trimlight’s product warranty.
- A section out: a data or connection fault at one bulb can stop the bulbs after it. Replacing that bulb usually restores the run.
- Everything out: most often a tripped outlet, unplugged controller, power outage or Wi-Fi change.
What to check before you call
- Open the app to confirm it’s connected and a pattern is running (or that a timer hasn’t scheduled the lights off).
- Run a solid white pattern so a problem bulb is easy to spot.
- Note where it is, such as “front gable, third bulb from the left,” and take a photo from the ground if you can.
- Check the controller’s outlet. Garage GFCI outlets often trip after storms — press reset.
- Confirm the controller has power (indicator lights) and, if needed, restart it by unplugging for a minute.
- Check your Wi-Fi. A new router or password means re-pairing the controller.
What happens when you call
- We troubleshoot with you by phone. Sometimes a reset or app setting solves it.
- If a bulb has failed, we schedule a service visit.
- For warranty defects, Trimlight supplies the replacement product and we install it.
- We test the run to make sure every bulb is responding.
What’s covered
- Parts: Trimlight’s lifetime product warranty covers defective components under its terms. Bulbs are rated for about 50,000 hours of use.
- Labor: Northpoint backs installation labor and workmanship for 5 years. If a bulb sags, a channel loosens or a connection fails because of our install, we come back and make it right at no charge.
- Not covered: network, Wi-Fi and app setup issues, plus damage from outside causes. We can still help with those.
Why replacing a bulb is simple
Each bulb sits in the aluminum channel, so replacing one doesn’t involve rebuilding the roofline. The crew swaps the bulb and tests the system.
After a storm
Middle Tennessee storms can cause outages and tripped outlets. When power returns, check the garage outlet first. Your saved patterns and timers stay stored once the controller is back online.
Tips to prevent problems
Use timers instead of running lights 24/7, and rinse off pollen and debris occasionally.

Do I need to provide maintenance on Trimlight or is it carefree?
Short answer: Trimlight is close to maintenance-free. There’s nothing to hang, take down or store each year. Beyond an occasional rinse and keeping the app connected, there’s little to do. If something does need attention, you call your local dealer.
What you no longer have to do
With traditional holiday lights, every season means:
- Climbing ladders to hang strands and clips
- Replacing burned-out bulbs and tangled cords
- Taking everything down in January
- Finding storage space until next year
Trimlight stays in place year-round inside a slim aluminum channel, so all of that goes away.
The small things worth doing
- Rinse occasionally: pollen, dust and spider webs can collect under the eaves. A gentle spray from a garden hose keeps the light bright. Avoid pressure washing directly into the channel.
- Keep Wi-Fi connected: if you change your router or Wi-Fi password, re-pair the controller in the app.
- Update the app: updates add features and fixes.
- Use a sensible schedule: running lights from sunset to bedtime, rather than 24/7, helps the system last longer.
If something needs service
Bulbs, controllers and other components are covered by Trimlight’s lifetime product warranty under its terms. If a bulb goes out or the system stops responding, call Northpoint Trimlight. We diagnose the problem, coordinate any warranty claim with Trimlight and handle the repair at your home. Network and app setup questions aren’t warranty claims, but they’re usually quick to fix with a call.
Seasonal checklist
Spring: rinse off pollen. Summer: check that timers still match sunset times. Fall: after leaves drop, check that nothing is resting on the channel. Winter: after storms or outages, check the garage outlet and confirm the app is connected.
In Middle Tennessee
Middle Tennessee’s spring pollen and humid summers can leave a film under the eaves, so a rinse once or twice a year is a good habit. For anything more, Northpoint Trimlight is a local call: (931) 419-5432, Monday–Saturday: 8:00 AM – 7:00 PM

How much do they cost?
Short answer: The average Northpoint Trimlight project in Middle Tennessee is about $6,000. Most homes fall between $2,500 and $5,500; larger, estate-sized homes with complex rooflines typically run $7,500 to $12,000. The final price depends on your home — see the full breakdown on our pricing page — and every quote is free and done on-site.
Price ranges by home size
These ranges match what we publish on /pricing/:
- Most homes — $2,500–$5,500: a typical Franklin, Brentwood, Nolensville, Spring Hill or Thompson’s Station home — single-story or two-story, about 150–280 linear feet of roofline.
- Larger homes — $7,500–$12,000: estate-sized homes with complex rooflines, multiple gables or accent runs.
- Commercial: custom quote for retail, restaurants, office parks and HOA-managed properties.
Your exact number depends on your roofline — length, gables, dormers and any accents — not a one-size range.
What drives the price
- Linear feet of roofline: the more eave and gable you light, the more channel and bulbs you need.
- Complexity: multiple gables, dormers, steep pitches and second or third stories add labor.
- Accent runs: porches, columns, garages and outbuildings add length.
- Bulb choice: brighter bulb options can affect the total.
- Controller and wiring: distance from the roofline to the controller location matters.
What’s included
A Northpoint Trimlight project includes:
- An on-site design consultation and measurements
- Materials, including channel color-matched to your trim
- Professional installation by our crew
- App setup and a walkthrough on your phone
- Trimlight’s lifetime product warranty under its terms
Financing
Financing options are available, including 0% APR introductory plans through partners. Ask about current terms when you get your quote. Details are also on our pricing page.
Cost over time
Permanent lighting is a one-time installation that stays up year-round, so there’s no annual hanging and take-down. Many homeowners compare that with paying for seasonal light installation every year. It also covers every holiday and everyday lighting, not just Christmas.
How to get an exact price
Because every home is different, the only way to get an exact number is to measure. We’ll visit, walk the roofline with you, show you channel colors and lights, and send a written quote — usually within 48 hours.
What’s included in a quote
Your written quote shows the rooflines and accents to be lit, the channel color, the controller and installation. Ask any questions before you sign so you know exactly what you’re getting.

Where does the controller box go?
Short answer: Typically the Trimlight control box mounts on an interior wall inside a garage or under a covered carport, and the system plugs into a regular outlet.
What the controller does
The controller is the system’s brain. It stores your patterns and schedules, connects to your Wi-Fi so the app can reach it, and sends low-voltage power and data to the lights.
What makes a good location
- A standard outlet nearby: the controller plugs in like any small appliance.
- Protection from weather: indoors or under cover, away from direct rain.
- A strong Wi-Fi signal: needed for the app and remote control.
- A short route to the roofline: wiring runs from the controller to the lights, so closer usually means a cleaner install.
- Out of the way: high enough on the wall that cars, bikes and storage won’t bump it.
Common locations
- Interior garage wall: the most common choice.
- Under a covered carport: Trimlight’s published alternative when a garage isn’t available.
Checking the Wi-Fi signal
Garages are often at the edge of a home’s Wi-Fi range. Before installation, check the signal in the garage with your phone. If it’s weak, a Wi-Fi extender or mesh node near the garage usually solves it.
Outlet tips
Many garages have GFCI outlets that can trip during storms. If your lights ever stop working, check that outlet first.
In Middle Tennessee
Most homes in our service area have attached garages, while some rural properties use a utility room or outbuilding instead. Northpoint Trimlight picks the best spot with you during your free design quote. Call our Franklin office at (931) 419-5432, Monday–Saturday: 8:00 AM – 7:00 PM

Are they HOA approved?
Short answer: Usually, yes. Most HOAs allow Trimlight once the board reviews it, but many require written approval before installation. Northpoint Trimlight is glad to help with the HOA approval paperwork so you can submit a complete request.
Why HOAs tend to accept permanent lighting
Most HOA concerns about exterior lighting come down to how it looks by day and how it’s used at night. Trimlight addresses both:
- Daytime appearance: the aluminum channel mounts flush under the roofline and is color-matched to your trim, so it reads as a slim trim line rather than hardware.
- Nighttime use: the lights are fully programmable. You can run warm white year-round, schedule holiday colors only for the holiday, and set lights to turn off at a set time, which lines up with most “seasonal lighting” rules.
- No seasonal clutter: there are no clips, cords or extension cables to leave up after the holidays.
How to get approval
- Check your HOA’s architectural guidelines for exterior lighting or “permanent fixtures.”
- Ask us for product details, a channel color sample and photos of what the finished system looks like.
- Submit your architectural review request with those documents and a note about the color you plan to match.
- Schedule installation once you have written approval.
Historic districts and design review
Some Middle Tennessee areas review exterior changes through a city board instead of, or in addition to, an HOA. Historic districts such as downtown Franklin and downtown Columbia have local historic zoning commissions. If your home is in one of these districts, ask the city about review requirements before installing. We can provide the same product documentation for that review.
In Middle Tennessee
Many newer neighborhoods in Williamson, Maury and Rutherford counties have active HOAs with architectural review committees. Requirements vary from one subdivision to the next, so the safest step is to confirm your neighborhood’s rules during your free design quote. Why is Trimlight better and more reliable than other systems?
Short answer: Trimlight combines a patented aluminum channel, low-voltage LED lighting, a full-color app and a lifetime product warranty, all installed and serviced by a local authorized dealer. That combination is what makes it a long-term part of your home rather than a seasonal decoration.
What sets Trimlight apart
- Patented channel system: the aluminum channel mounts flush under the roofline, hides the wiring and protects the bulbs.
- Lens-free residential bulbs: the LED faces directly out without a plastic cover that can yellow over time.
- Low-voltage design: low-voltage power along the roofline runs cooler, which helps components last.
- Full-color control: every bulb can show any color, with patterns, timers and calendar events in the app.
- Lifetime product warranty: Trimlight backs its components under its warranty terms.
- Authorized dealer network: systems are installed and serviced by trained local dealers.
Questions to ask any permanent lighting company
When you compare options, ask:
- What does the warranty cover, and for how long?
- Who handles repairs, and are they local?
- Is the channel custom-cut and color-matched to my trim?
- Do the bulbs have a lens that can yellow or cloud?
- Can I set timers and calendar events in the app?
- What happens if the company that installed it goes away?
Built for real weather
Exterior lighting has to handle heat, humidity, storms and freezing nights. A protective channel and quality components matter more than any single feature.
The value of a local dealer
A lighting system is only as good as the people who install and stand behind it. A local dealer means someone nearby to call.

How long have you been in business?
Short answer: Trimlight, the product and brand, has been making permanent, programmable roofline lighting since 2010. Northpoint Trimlight, the locally owned authorized dealer in Franklin, Tennessee, has been installing and servicing Trimlight for Middle Tennessee homes and businesses since 2026.
Trimlight and Northpoint Trimlight
Two companies work together on your system:
- Trimlight (since 2010) designs and manufactures the lighting system, the patented aluminum channel and the app, and backs its products with a lifetime product warranty under its terms.
- Northpoint Trimlight (since 2026) is the local, independent dealer. We design your layout, install the system, set up the app with you, and handle service and warranty coordination.
Because installation and service are handled by the dealer, your day-to-day relationship is with a local team, not a national call center.
Where we work
Our office is at 330 Mallory Station Rd, Suite C6, in Franklin. We serve 53 ZIP codes across 15 counties in Middle Tennessee, including Franklin, Brentwood, Nolensville, Spring Hill, Thompson’s Station, Columbia and Nashville, plus many smaller towns. See the full list on our service areas page.
What to expect from us

- App setup and a walkthrough at the end of installation
- A local number to call for service: (931) 419-5432
Why a local dealer matters
Permanent lighting is a long-term part of your home. A local dealer means someone nearby who knows the product, can visit your home and coordinates any warranty work with Trimlight on your behalf.
What this means for you
When you work with us, you get a team that designs, installs and services its own work. You’ll know who to call before, during and after installation.

How much energy does Trimlight use?
Short answer: Very little. Per Trimlight, the Classic bulb uses 0.6 watts and the 3L bulb uses 0.9 watts each. A typical home’s whole roofline system still uses less power than many single household bulbs. Running it every evening adds only a small amount to your electric bill.
Why it’s so efficient
LEDs turn most of their power into light instead of heat. Classic bulbs draw 0.6 W and 3L bulbs draw 0.9 W each, and brightness can be dialed down for even less. Compared with strands of traditional incandescent holiday lights, the difference is dramatic.
How to estimate your cost
You can estimate your own cost in three steps:
- Find the system wattage: multiply the number of bulbs by the watts per bulb. We’ll give you these numbers with your quote.
- Multiply by hours of use: for example, 5 hours a night for 30 days is 150 hours a month.
- Multiply by your electric rate: your utility bill lists your rate per kilowatt-hour (kWh).
For example, a 40-watt system running 150 hours uses 6 kWh in a month. Multiply 6 by your rate to get your monthly cost.
Ways to use even less
- Use timers so lights turn off at bedtime.
- Lower brightness for everyday warm white.
- Skip daytime use.
Year-round use without guilt
Because the energy use is so low, many owners run warm white every evening for curb appeal and safety, then switch to holiday colors when it’s time to celebrate.
In Middle Tennessee
Your rate depends on your utility. Homes in our service area are served by providers such as Nashville Electric Service, Middle Tennessee Electric, Duck River Electric Membership Corporation and other local power companies. Check your bill for your rate. Northpoint Trimlight can share your system’s wattage at your free design quote. Call our Franklin office at (931) 419-5432, Monday–Saturday: 8:00 AM – 7:00 PM
Sunday: Closed. -
Will my lights be visible from different angles?
Short answer: Yes. Trimlight bulbs protrude 3/8 inch below the channel, so light spreads at a wide angle. Your roofline reads clearly from the street, from the side and from neighboring yards, not just when you’re looking at the house head-on.
Why the viewing angle matters
People rarely see your house straight on. They see it:
- Driving up the street from either direction
- From neighbors’ yards and windows
- Walking past on the sidewalk
- From the driveway as you pull in
Lights that only look bright head-on can look dim or patchy from the side. A wider angle keeps the line of light consistent.
How Trimlight’s design helps
- Bulbs protrude 3/8″ below the channel: this lets light spread outward and downward instead of being boxed in.
- Even spacing: bulbs are spaced evenly along the channel, so the line looks continuous.
- Adjustable brightness: you can balance brightness for close-up and distant viewing.
Factors that affect visibility
- Distance from the street: homes set far back may benefit from a brighter bulb option.
- Roof height: taller rooflines are seen from steeper angles.
- Trees and landscaping: large trees can block parts of the roofline from some angles.
- Lot layout: corner lots and cul-de-sacs are seen from more directions.
Planning for your lot
During your design quote, we look at how your home is seen from the street and nearby homes. That helps us decide which rooflines to light and which bulb option fits.
Check it after installation
After installation, walk around your home at night and view it from several angles. Small brightness adjustments in the app can make a big difference.

How many LEDs do your bulbs have?
Short answer: Trimlight offers three bulb options. The classic bulb has 1 LED; the 3L bulb has 3 bright LEDs and is as bright as Trimlight’s commercial bulb.
The bulb options
- Classic bulb: one LED per bulb. A dependable choice that gives a crisp, even line of light on most homes.
- 3L bulb: three LEDs per bulb, so it’s noticeably brighter. Useful when a home sits far back from the road or has high rooflines.
- Commercial bulb: designed for commercial buildings, where light needs to read from farther away.
Bulb availability can change, so we’ll confirm current options with your quote.
How to choose
We usually recommend a bulb based on:
- Viewing distance: homes set far back from the road benefit from a brighter bulb.
- Roofline height: taller two- and three-story rooflines may need more output to read from the ground.
- Lot and neighborhood: on tighter lots where neighbors are close, the Classic bulb often looks balanced without being too bright.
- Everyday use: if you mainly want a soft warm-white glow, brightness can be dialed down in the app either way.
Brightness is adjustable
Whichever bulb you choose, you control brightness in the app. Many homes run lower brightness for everyday warm white and turn it up for holiday scenes.
Energy use
All Trimlight bulbs are LEDs, so even the brighter options use very little power compared with traditional incandescent holiday lights.
See it before you decide
The best way to choose is to see the light on a home like yours.
In Middle Tennessee
Rural homes in our service area often sit well back from the road, while homes in newer subdivisions sit closer together. We’ll recommend a bulb for your setting at your free design quote. Call Northpoint Trimlight in Franklin at (931) 419-5432, Monday–Saturday: 8:00 AM – 7:00 PM

How do they look during the day?
Short answer: Barely noticeable. Trimlight mounts in a slim aluminum channel under your roofline that’s color-matched to your trim, with the wiring hidden inside and the bulbs set into the channel. From the street, it reads as part of the trim.
What you see by day
- A thin trim line: the residential channel is small and sits tight under the eave or along the fascia.
- Matched color: we choose a channel color that blends with your fascia or soffit.
- No visible cords: wiring runs inside the channel.
- No clips or strands: nothing hangs from gutters or shingles.
Choosing the right channel color
Matching the channel to your trim is the biggest factor in how invisible the system looks. During your design quote, we compare channel samples against your fascia and soffit in daylight. Common choices include white and off-white for painted trim, darker tones for dark trim, and bronze or brown for wood-tone or brick homes. Trimlight offers more than 50 standard channel colors, plus personalized color-matching.
Clean lines on every roofline
Because the channel is cut to fit on-site, it follows eaves, gables and corners cleanly. That’s what keeps the daytime look tidy instead of patchy.
Why it matters
Permanent lighting is up all year, so daytime appearance matters as much as the nighttime glow. A system that disappears by day:
- Keeps curb appeal intact
- Makes HOA approval easier
- Lets you use the lights year-round without the house looking decorated
See it before you decide
The best way to judge the daytime look is in person. At your design quote, we’ll hold a channel sample against your trim so you can see how it blends in. You can also drive past installs in your area that we can point you to, with homeowner permission.
In Middle Tennessee
Rooflines across our service area vary from historic homes in downtown Franklin to brick ranches and newer modern-farmhouse builds with dark trim. We match the channel to each one. How many patterns can I save in Trimlight app?
Short answer: You can save up to 60 patterns in the Trimlight app. If you go over that, the app shows you’ve exceeded the limit — delete patterns you no longer use (swipe left on a pattern in the list) to make room.
How many patterns most homes need
A year-round library usually includes:
- Everyday: one or two warm-white looks
- Major holidays: Christmas, Halloween, Thanksgiving and the Fourth of July
- Other holidays: Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Easter, Mother’s Day, Memorial Day and Veterans Day
- Game days: Titans, Predators, Vols, Commodores, or your school’s colors
- Personal: birthdays, anniversaries, graduations or a gender reveal
That’s typically well within the 60-pattern limit.
Keeping your library organized
- Name patterns clearly, such as “Christmas Classic” or “Vols Game Day,” so they’re easy to find and schedule.
- Group by season in your head or by naming, for example “XMAS – Warm” and “XMAS – Multi.”
- Delete what you don’t use. If a pattern hasn’t run in a year, you probably don’t need it.
- Keep favorites simple. A few well-tuned patterns often look better than many similar ones.
Patterns and the calendar
Saved patterns are the building blocks for timers and calendar events. Once your library is set, you can schedule the whole year in one sitting so holidays run automatically.
Sharing with your household
Everyone in your home who uses the app sees the same saved patterns, so agree on naming and who manages the calendar.
Getting started
Start with a few patterns you know you’ll use, like warm white, Christmas, the Fourth of July and your team colors. Add more as holidays come up. We’ll help you set up your first patterns at installation.

Can I set up a daily timer and calendar event on the same day?
Short answer: Yes — but Trimlight recommends not overlapping a daily timer with a calendar event. As long as the times do not overlap, both work correctly (for example, a holiday event 7 PM–11 PM, then a daily timer from 11:01 PM onward).
Daily timers and calendar events
- Daily timer: repeats every day, such as warm white from sunset to 11 PM.
- Calendar event: runs on a specific date or date range, such as a Christmas scene from December 1 to 31.
Setting them up without overlap
A simple way to plan it:
- Create your calendar event for the occasion, for example 6 PM to 10 PM on a festival weekend.
- Set your daily timer to start after the event ends, for example 10:01 PM to midnight.
- Save both and check the schedule in the app.
When the event’s time window ends, a non-overlapping daily timer can pick up. On dates without an event, the daily timer runs on its own.
Ideas for a Middle Tennessee calendar
Local events make great reasons for a special scene:
- December: Dickens of a Christmas in downtown Franklin and holiday parades in towns across the region.
- Fall: Pumpkinfest in Franklin and Halloween weekends.
- Spring: Mule Day in Columbia.
- Summer: the Fourth of July and the RC-MoonPie Festival in Bell Buckle.
- Late summer: the Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration in Shelbyville.
Add team colors for home games and school events, too.
Tips
- Use the app’s calendar view to spot overlaps before the date arrives.
- Plan the whole year at once so the holidays run automatically.
A simple example
Create a calendar event for July 4 with a red, white and blue pattern from 7 PM to 11 PM. Set your daily warm-white timer to start at 11:01 PM (after the event). Because the times do not overlap, both work correctly. On other nights, only the daily timer runs.

Do you have a setting for warm white?
Short answer: Yes. Trimlight includes a warm-white option and lets you create your own custom whites. Warm white gives a soft, cozy glow similar to classic incandescent lighting and is the most popular choice for year-round use.
Warm white vs. other whites
White light ranges from warm (yellowish, like a candle or old incandescent bulb) to cool (bluish, like daylight). Because Trimlight is a full-color system, you can:
- Choose a warm-white preset for a classic look
- Mix a custom white that’s slightly warmer or cooler
- Save your favorite white for one-tap recall
Why warm white is popular for everyday use
- It flatters most exteriors: brick, stone, wood and painted siding usually look richer under warm light.
- It looks intentional: a warm, even line along the roofline reads like architectural lighting, not holiday decorations.
- It works with neighbors’ lighting: warm white blends with porch lights and landscape lighting.
Getting the tone right
- Pick the warm-white preset in the app.
- Step out to the street after dark.
- Adjust brightness. Many homes look best somewhere below full brightness for everyday use.
- If it looks too yellow or too stark, fine-tune a custom white and save it.
Year-round and holiday use together
Many owners run warm white every evening, then switch to holiday colors for Christmas, Halloween or the Fourth of July with a calendar event. When the event ends, the warm-white timer picks back up.
Choosing your white
Whites can look different against brick, stone, painted siding and dark trim. We’ll show you a few options on your home at night after installation so you can choose the tone you like best and save it as your everyday pattern.

How do I save a pattern?
Short answer: Create or edit a pattern in the Trimlight app, then save it to your pattern list. Saved patterns can be played with one tap, renamed or deleted, and used in timers and calendar events.
Saving a pattern step by step
Menus can change between app updates, but the process generally looks like this:
- Open the Trimlight app and connect to your system.
- Choose a preset or start a new pattern.
- Pick your colors, the order they repeat, and an effect such as static, chase or fade.
- Adjust brightness and speed.
- Save the pattern and give it a clear name, such as “Christmas Classic” or “Titans Game Day.”
Managing saved patterns
In your saved pattern list you can typically:
- Tap a pattern to play it right away
- Rename it so it’s easy to find
- Delete patterns you no longer use
- Use it in a timer or calendar event
Patterns worth saving
A good starting library covers the year:
- Everyday: warm white
- Holidays: Christmas, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Easter and the Fourth of July
- Game days: Titans, Predators, Vols, Commodores or your school’s colors
- Personal: birthdays, anniversaries or a baby announcement
Tips
- Name patterns by occasion so they’re easy to schedule.
- Preview patterns from the street at night before saving them for the season.
- Delete old patterns occasionally to keep the list tidy.
Organizing your saved patterns
Use clear names, group patterns by holiday or season, and delete old patterns you no longer use. Before a holiday, save your patterns ahead of time so you can attach them to calendar events. That way your lights switch automatically on the day.

There are different types of white in lighting, what does Trimlight have?
Short answer: Trimlight can produce a full range of whites, from warm, yellowish white to bright, cool white, because it’s a full-color RGB system. You can pick a preset white or fine-tune a custom shade in the app and save it.
Understanding white light
White light comes in different “temperatures”:
- Warm white: soft and slightly golden, like a classic incandescent bulb or candlelight. Cozy and inviting.
- Neutral white: balanced, neither yellow nor blue.
- Cool white: crisp and slightly bluish, like daylight. Modern and bright.
Traditional lights lock you into one temperature. With Trimlight, you can change it any time.
How Trimlight makes white
Each bulb mixes red, green and blue light. Changing the mix changes the white. More red and less blue gives a warmer white, while more blue gives a cooler white. Mixing all three at full intensity gives the brightest white.
Choosing the right white for your home
- Start with the preset warm white in the app.
- Look from the street after dark, where neighbors and visitors see your home.
- Compare against your porch and landscape lights so the whites don’t clash.
- Adjust brightness; everyday white often looks best below full brightness.
- Save your favorite for your nightly timer.
What flatters different exteriors
- Brick, stone and wood: warm white usually brings out rich tones.
- White or light siding: neutral white keeps it clean without looking yellow.
- Modern exteriors with dark trim: some owners prefer a slightly cooler white.
Seasonal whites
Try a cool, icy white for winter, warm white for fall, and bright white for the Fourth of July.

How many colors can I show at once with Trimlight?
Short answer: You can show up to 30 colors at a time and program up to 90 lights of each color in a pattern (for example 90 red, 15 orange, 1 purple). Don’t program more than 90 per color.
How colors work in a pattern
Every bulb in a Trimlight system can be set individually. When you build a pattern in the app, you choose:
- Which colors to include
- How many bulbs of each color in a row
- The order the colors repeat in
- An effect, such as static, chase, fade or twinkle
The official limits are 30 colors per pattern and 90 lights per color — generous for a home roofline.
What looks best
More colors isn’t always better. From the street, simple patterns usually read more clearly:
- Two colors: red and green for Christmas, orange and white for the Vols, blue and white for the Titans.
- Three colors: red, white and blue for the Fourth of July; orange, purple and green for Halloween.
- Multicolor: a classic rainbow, like old-fashioned C9 Christmas bulbs.
- One color: warm white for everyday use.
Spacing matters too. Groups of two or three bulbs per color often look bolder from the street than alternating single bulbs.
Test it from the street
Patterns look different on your phone than they do on the house. After you build one, walk to the curb after dark and adjust the spacing, brightness and speed until it looks right.
Save and schedule
Once you like a pattern, save it and add it to a calendar event so it runs automatically during the holiday or event.

Can I customize colors with Trimlight? If so, how?
Short answer: Yes. Trimlight is a full-color RGB system, so you can pick from preset colors or create your own custom shade in the Trimlight app, then save it for one-tap use later.
How custom colors work
In the app’s color palette, you can select a preset color or open the color editor to fine-tune a shade. The editor lets you slide through the color spectrum or enter specific values, which is handy when you want to match a team, school or brand color exactly. Once you’re happy with a color, save it to your palette so you can reuse it in any pattern.
Menu names can change between app updates, so if a button has moved, look for the palette or color editor in the pattern screen.
Building scenes with your colors
Custom colors become most useful when you combine them into patterns:
- Holidays: red and green for Christmas, orange and purple for Halloween, red, white and blue for the Fourth of July.
- Game days: team colors for the Titans, Predators, Vols, Commodores or your local high school.
- Everyday: a warm white for a soft, year-round glow.
You can save patterns and schedule them on the calendar so the right colors come on automatically.
Getting colors to look right
Colors look different on a phone screen than on your roofline at night. After you create a color, step out to the street after dark and adjust it. Brick, stone and light-colored siding can all shift how a color reads, so small brightness and tone tweaks make a big difference.
